I will share with you some of those "theories" that I find most interesting, in spite of the fact that I do not find death hilarious, and my average brain still can't understand why all this amazing artists who have touched our souls had to die so young.
There is a very popular legend regarding his popularity that he was the first man who signed a deal with the devil. According to the legend he was instructed to go to crossroad near Dockery Plantations in Mississippi. He met a large man who is believed to be the Devil, took his guitar and tuned it and played few songs and then returned the guitar to Robert, from that point he became the master of that instrument. The deal was made by the Devil that he will give him all the fame and popularity and in return he will take his soul. Robert Johnston did become a famous musician but he died in 1938 at the age of 27. Then many people around the world started believing that Robert Johnston was the one who was the first victim of this curse and then later same thing happened to all the musician, they sold their soul to the Devil in exchange of fame and wealth. ( or Johnson was murdered by the jealous husband of a woman with whom he had flirted. -according wiki)
The 27 Trio
Brian Jones - Jimi Hendrix-Jim Morrison
The weird fact about this is the fact that the 3 of the famous "members" are dying following each other, in the 1969, 1970 and 1971. And like that's not enough, Jones (Rolling Stones) and Jim Morrison share the same unlucky day of 3rd July.

The first of the six principal members of the 27 Club, Brian Jones was from a conservative, middle-class home, but his teenage years saw him coming into repeated conflict with his parents.
By the time he was 19 he was the father of three illegitimate children by different women, had disappointed his parents in not finding work and was thrown out.
However, he was an accomplished musician and founded The Rolling Stones, leading the group until the songwriters Mick Jagger and Keith Richards emerged as the dominant force. He was prone to sometimes violent mood swings, and even in the early days his drug-taking caused him to miss gigs. Neurotic and weepy, he was ostracised within his own band and in June 1969 was fired from the group.
Depressed, drinking heavily and using cocaine as well as prescription drugs to excess, he drowned in his swimming pool.

Jim Morrison - Born into a strict naval home (his father later became an admiral), Jim Morrison severed contact with his family when he was on the brink of fame and told his publicist that they were dead. Like his mother, he was a heavy drinker.
Finding the pressure of being in The Doors intense, he feared he was having a nervous breakdown. His performances became crazed. He later walked off stage mid-concert and a tour was cancelled. Escaping the attention, he moved to Paris with his girlfriend Pam Courson, but continued to drink heavily.
After he overdosed from snorting heroin, Pam put him in a bath to recover, but found him dead there the following morning.

Jimi Hendrix was described in Rolling Stone as: the greatest guitarist of all time […] one of the biggest cultural figures of the Sixties, a psychedelic voodoo child who spewed clouds of distortion and pot smoke. |
Born into a poor Seattle family, Hendrix was the son of two drinkers. His parents divorced when he was nine and Jimi lived rather tensely with his father. When he was 15, his mother died from a ruptured spleen.
Hendrix believed that he had to be stoned to perform well and would use drugs and alcohol to perk up and wind down. He was tiring of constant touring and performing his hits, and his final concerts were booed.
On the night he died, he mixed up to nine sleeping pills (half of one is a normal dose) with a great deal of wine. In his sleep, he choked on his vomit.

Upon Jones's death, Jimi Hendrix dedicated a song to him on US television, and Jim Morrison of The Doors published a poem titled "Ode to L.A. While Thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased". Hendrix and Morrison both died within the following two years, both aged 27, the same age as Jones.
The idea of 27 Club became the focal point of public and press after the death of Kurt Cobain almost 25 years after the last death occurred.
“Now he’s gone and joined that stupid club.”
Wendy Fradenburg Cobain O’Connor said in an interview of the newspaper ‘The Daily World’ – “Now he’s gone and joined that stupid club. I told him not to join that stupid club.” According to Charles R. Cross, Wendy actually referred to Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin who died at the age of 27.
Kurt Cobain harked back to his parents’ divorce, when he was nine, as the point at which his life had gone wrong. He became withdrawn and suicide became a preoccupation.
From the outset, his relationship with Courtney Love was a love affair steeped in heroin abuse. Within a year, Cobain had overdosed, as he would time and again Then while Love was asleep in their Rome hotel room, he overdosed on Rohypnol, the socalled ‘date-rape drug’.
He had left a suicide note saying his wife didn’t love him and that he’d rather die than go through a divorce like his parents.
Courtney Love saved him, but back in the U.S. he wrote a further suicide note, injected heroin and shot himself.
Many conspiracy theorists say that Cobain actually committed suicide simply because he wanted to join the club.

The last in the 27 Club
After Cobain’s death, the 27 Club somewhat lost media attention. It was however revived by death of Amy Winehouse in 2011, 17 years after Cobain’s death.
Interestingly Winehouse actually expressed her fear of dying at the age of 27 three days prior to her death.
Some people went to her shows just to see what crazy thing she’d do next, as fans had once gone to gawp at Jim Morrison.

There has been many speculations about the 27 Club, and there are many yet to come. All the similarities between the rock stars, starting with the age of 27, the addictions , the crazy life style and the fame... made some think, along the time, evan of a Pact with the Devil on exchange for fame.
Another theory that I have found interesting is based on Carl Gustav Jung's archetype concept.
Another theory that I have found interesting is based on Carl Gustav Jung's archetype concept.
This theory consists on the process of an individual being taken by a system of ancient behaviours, which were passed by all the human generations, to our very unconscious.
In this specific case (27 Club), the archetype which is evoked to emerge is the Hero.
Leading directly to connect the hero archetype with those talented and famous artists, the Hero play a important role in our lives and unconscious, they inspire us to achieve our expectations, and needless to say that music is one of the most inspiring things ever created in humanity.
The problem is, the Hero, is meant to die, by definition and with no exceptions.
The problem is, the Hero, is meant to die, by definition and with no exceptions.
In the Greek myth, the hero has to die in order to complete his "hero" way of sacrificing himself for something he truly loves or believes in, evan if it makes no sense for the reason. When the archetype is strong, the reason is long gone. And then if we consider the magic 7 and all the speculations that had been around it since the beginning of the time for what ever mystical or religious reasons, then the age of 27 makes evan better sense for the hero archetype. We are most likely to have a life crisis on a 7 years cycle, so around the age of 27/28 (not exactly) every individual "connected and taken" by the Hero archetype, may be in danger.
If you stay in Larissa, you will find peace. You will find a wonderful woman, and you will have sons and daughters, who will have children. And they'll all love you and remember your name. But when your children are dead, and their children after them, your name will be forgotten... | If you go to Troy, glory will be yours. They will write stories about your victories in thousands of years! And the world will remember your name. But if you go to Troy, you will never come back... for your glory walks hand-in-hand with your doom. And I shall never see you again. |
